TORONTO, Ont. (05/10/2018) - According to Toronto Police news release, “Operation Impact 2018” was launched this morning October 05, 2018 at 5:00AM and will continue through the weekend into Monday October 08, 2018.
“The focus will be on behaviours that put drivers, passengers and other vulnerable road users most at risk: impaired driving, lack of seat belt use, aggressive driving, and distracted driving,” says the statement by Toronto Police.
Operation Impact 2018 is a countrywide operation that will involve many agencies across the county.
The operation is aimed at reducing fatalities and serious injuries on Canadian roads.
“It is not a coincidence that the timing of this campaign to achieve safer streets and highways takes place during this long weekend. More people are traveling and collisions are therefore more frequent,” states the news release.
To aggressive, drunk, distracted and careless drivers the message of Toronto Police is crystal clear, “drivers have the ability to make the roads safer.”
“Our message is clear, drivers have the ability to make the roads safer for all road users by driving sober, ensuring seat belts are used, reducing speeds, eliminating distractions and considering others before yourself,” says the news release.
